Early Modern Literature and Culture

Catalog description

This course will examine literary texts of the Early Modern period such as the writings of John Milton, William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, Edmund Spenser, and others . Students will consider the sociopolitical contexts that shaped these texts and explore questions of how these texts conceptualize the individual and their relationship to society. Topics will vary and students may repeat the course twice. May be repeated up to six hours if topics differ. Prerequisite(s): One of the English Studies in Historical Context survey classes: ENG 2110 , ENG 2120 , ENG 2610 , ENG 2620 , ENG 2640 , ENG 2650 , ENG 2740 , or ENG 2750 .
