Catalog description

Examines theories of language and communication development, intervention approaches, bilingualism, didactic and child-directed approaches, caregiver-child interactions, naturalistic environments, influences of preschool inclusion. Introduces strategies for assessment of communicative functioning. Focuses on early intervention for communication development in children who are not progressing at normal developmental rates. Discusses alternative and augmentative devices in natural settings, guidelines for training parents and peers. Prerequisite(s): C or better in EDTL 2010 and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
