Introduction to the Teaching of Social Studies

Fall, Spring. This course provides students with an introduction to curricular issues in social studies, grades 7 - 12. It focuses on understanding the interrelated nature of the social sciences as well as individual social science courses. Key concepts will be addressed such as organizational structure, curriculum standards, inquiry, fundamentals of lesson planning, and social science/technology. One two-hour lecture and one three-hour lab in grade-level school setting. Requires FBI/BCI background checks valid throughout the semester of enrollment. Prerequisite(s): EDTL 2020 and EDTL 3400 .
