Labor Economics

Catalog description

Economics of the labor market, focusing on firms who want to hire workers (labor demand) and how many people want to work along with their hours (labor supply). Equilibrium and deviations from equilibrium wage will be covered, along with other issues affecting the labor market such as education/training, discrimination and inequality. Special focus will be given to social issues affecting the labor market, including workers as people not just a commodity, consumerism and labor supply and unpaid labor. Labor market policies instituted by the government will also be studied. Prerequisite(s): ECON 2000 or ECON 2020 or ECON 2040 , or consent of instructor.
