Catalog description

A survey of Chinese modernity through Chinese literature and its film adaptation. This course centers on exploring and revealing how the concept of being modern was formed, developed and transformed in Chinese society in the 20th and 21st centuries. Examination of canonical works and their filmic adapations by promenent writers such as Lu Xun, Yu Dafu, Ding Ling, Mu Yan, Liu Cixin and others. Readings, writings, and lectures in English. Approved for distance education.
