Elementary Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry

Catalog description

Survey of principles of organic chemistry and biochemistry. Organic chemistry topics include nomenclature, structure, stereochemistry, properties and reactivity of major functional groups. Biochemistry topics include structure and properties of carbohydrates, lipids, enzymes, proteins and nucleic acids. Metabolic pathways and energy production are also discussed. Not accepted toward a chemistry major or minor. Three lectures per week. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 1090 or CHEM 1230 or CHEM 1250.
