Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive survey of the speech sound system of American English. The primary skill objective is to be able to transcribe English speech sounds in words and sentences using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Students will apply transcription skills to cultural and linguistic differences and to child language development.
