Performativity: Installation, Performance Art and Cosplay
Bowling Green State University-Main Campus · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course invites students to explore performativity in sculpture through the dynamic practices of installation, performance art, and cosplay. Emphasizing how actions, gestures, and expressions enact meaning, the course merges the body, space, and environment in the art-making process. Students investigate themes of identity, agency, and social boundaries, as well as imaginative and conceptual possibilities that challenge traditional notions of sculpture. Through critical experimentation and reflective practice, students design, synthesize, and refine performative works that integrate multiple modes of sculpture and engage audiences, expanding the possibilities of contemporary sculptural practice.
