Paramedic Psychomotor I

Catalog description
4 cr. hrs.; 0 lecture hours; 8 lab hours per week. Prerequisites: EMS 100 and 102, or current EMT licensure or NREMT certification with eligibility for Illinois EMT licensure; appropriate math placement score or MATH 070 "C" or better; COMM 100 or ENG 101 or ENG 101C; or consent of EMS program director. Concurrent enrollment in EMS 201 and EMS 205. This is a hands-on lab course where students practice essential paramedic skills in a controlled environment. The course emphasizes safe practices, patient assessment, and clinical decision-making. Students will refine skills such as intravenous and intraosseous access, medication administration, airway management, and advanced trauma procedures. Leadership and teamwork are key components, with students gaining experience in both team member and team leader roles. The course also covers 12-lead EKG interpretation, cardioversion, defibrillation, and transcutaneous pacing, alongside BLS and ALS trauma skills. Throughout, students will focus on professional behaviors like communication, patient advocacy, and cultural competency to provide compassionate, high-quality care.
