3 cr.hrs.; 3 lecture hours; 0 lab hours per week. Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of ENG 031; or Appropriate placement score in English and Reading An exploration of child development within a socio-cultural context, such as gender, family, race, ethnicity, language, ability, socio- economics, religion, and society; including an in-depth study of physical, social/emotional, cognitive, language, and aesthetic development; an examination of current research and major developmental theories. Emphasis is on the stages of development and understanding these factors in working with children. This course is required for the A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education, the Early Childhood Educator Certificate, and the Assistant Teacher certificate. IAI: ECE 912
