WGSS 383 - Contemporary Latinx and Caribbean Women Writers This course will focus on contemporary literature written in English by women of Caribbean and/or Latin American origin and their diasporas. We will examine current conversations and scholarship around Latinx and Caribbean literature written by women within the traditions of women of color writing. We will also explore how these writers challenge canonical literary expectations, such as genre and language. We read prose and poetry by authors such as Sandra Cisneros, Julia Alvarez, Edwidge Danticat, Elizabeth Acevedo, Xochitl Gonzalez, Angie Cruz, and Helena Maria Viramontes. There will be a midterm exam and a 7-10-page final paper. Students will also be responsible for short papers and leading class discussion.
