Turkish Linguistics

Catalog description

This course examines Turkish from the perspective of various subfields of linguistic inquiry. We begin with the history of Turkish, its place within the Turkic language family, and the Altaic hypothesis, which asserts that Turkish is related to languages such as Mongolian, Manchu, Japanese and Korean. The rest of the semester is devoted to an investigation of Turkish phonology, morphology, syntax, and information structure. Offered in spring.
