This course introduces key ideas in the field by examining public debates about translation. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of specific instances of difficult translation cases, such as controversies and so-called "untranslatable" language, and discuss how translators have responded. Readings are in English and will include popular non-fiction and journalism. This is the foundation course for Translation Studies.
