Catalog description
This course provides an introduction to the academic study of theatre and performance at the graduate level. Discussions and assignments will familiarize students with genres of academic writing, research methods in theatre and performance, and strategies for reading and analyzing academic research. Regular class discussion of assigned readings will be complemented by a semester-long exercise in which students develop their own independent scholarly research from beginning phases to the design and proposal of a project. This course is intended to complement departmental seminars and prepare students for thesis work.
