Binghamton University · UGRD

The course facilitates the community production of The Vanguard, the official publication of the Black Student Union. The Vanguard currently publishes 4-5 issues each academic year and the group holds events, performances, and other artistic and cultural productions along the way, all centered on the voices and visions of Black students on campus. The Vanguard welcomes visual and multimedia artists in addition to writers and editors. Class sessions will involve writing/creating, workshopping, and the occasional guest speaker in addition to production planning and editing. Students will be expected to participate in 3-4 events outside of the course meet time, as well as submit work to The Vanguard. The community aspect of this class is most important and we work really hard to cultivate a shared space for vulnerability, support, and safe expression. This is our founding quality.
