Catalog description

Offers an introductory course in musical theatre dramaturgy with special emphasis on the musicals of Stephen Sondheim. Teaches students basic skills of production dramaturgy: script and musical analysis, dramaturgical research, theatre criticism, writing, and presentation. Prepares students to take on independent dramaturgical work in the department production season. Students create dramaturgical casebooks and write reviews and critical essays on musical theatre performances. Restriction: No freshman. Offered alternate Spring semesters.
