On Camera Acting

Catalog description

This class explores the practical art of acting and auditioning for the camera. It includes the technical aspects of film acting such as physical/body language, film set terminology, cold readings, self-taping and “Sherlock-Holmesing” the script. Students will work with commercial copy, TV scripts and screenplays. They will perform on-camera and view their playbacks in class. On-camera class footage can be used for personal reels. The course will include writing assignments, various text readings, digital viewings and scene preparation. Please note: Students who received less than a C+ in any of the following courses: THEA 308, 307, 310, 311 or any 389 performance class must petition to and receive permission from the Acting/Directing Committee for a waiver in order to enroll in this course. Prerequisite: THEA 308 or consent of Instructor. Offered every other year.
