This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts, equipment, and philosophies of contemporary lighting design. Students will explore the properties of light and how to manipulate them using the tools and technologies of a modern lighting professional. As the industry evolves with new technologies, control protocols, and design philosophies, a strong foundational understanding is crucial. This class will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to keep pace with these changes and to begin a career as a working theatrical electrician. Through a combination of creative projects and hands-on practical work, you'll learn to communicate about light, realize design theories, and build a base of knowledge that will allow you to continue learning throughout your career. This course is appropriate for first-year students. Books: To be determined. Prerequisite: None. Co-Requisite: There IS a co- requisite for this class, IF you have not already taken THEP 216 or 371 or 471. If you have already taken one of the 3 classes then you do not need to do it again. Co-requisite will be signed up for during the class time, not during registration.
