In this introductory course you will learn methods to embody the art of acting for live performances online or on stage. Special attention is given to truthful doing and self-awareness, reducing self-consciousness. You'll be introduced to communication techniques and develop physical and vocal presence, furthering your understanding of the acting process and theatre in general. The course includes regular warm-ups, theatre exercises, and play analysis. You'll engage with basic theatre terminology, contemporary dramatic texts and theatrical performances. The class culminates in the performance of a final scene. Scenes will be selected from a diverse range of playwrights and you'll explore the political, cultural and social world of the play. This class or THEA208 is a requirement for Theatre Majors with an Acting/Directing emphasis. Notes: THIS COURSE IS APPROPRIATE FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS.
