Restorative Practice in School

Catalog description

This course will teach Social Work students basic historical and cultural relevance of Restorative Practices, the theories behind the work, and a variety of Restorative skills as they apply to the school environment. The student will learn how the theories and techniques of Restorative Practices align with Social Work values and ethics. Students will learn to use Restorative Circles, individual and coaching practices, and other Restorative techniques to foster positive, respectful relationships, as well as a sense of community and accountability. The class will utilize a variety of learning methods including group discussion, experiential learning, and case examples to understand the current application of Restorative Practices in Schools and the impact it is having on public education. From this course, the student will be able to identify principal concepts of Restorative Practices in schools and apply key principals in their work environments.
