SUST 510
Sust Comm 2: Policy & Practice
Binghamton University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Building on SUST 500, students will continue to critically examine sustainability issues, particularly at the local level, though a series of cases. The case studies will push students to explore how coupled human-environmental systems can endure in the face of global change, ecosystem degradation, and resource limitations. This course will focus on key knowledge areas of sustainability theory and practice including: scale, population, climate, urbanization, ecosystems, energy, land use, natural resources, hazards, economics, management, ethics, and culture. Through spatial analysis, measures of sustainable development will also be investigated. Rigorous analysis will be translated into policy memos, white papers, and presentations that explain options and build a case for policy action.
