Catalog description

Flexible and hybrid electronics integrate ultra-thin silicon semiconductor technology with non-traditional thin skin-like substrates establishing wearable devices for both human and machine. This course will cover design, materials, fabrication methods and evaluation of printed and thinned silicon-based electronics for applications such as smart energy, human health, and industrial sensing. Emphasis will be placed on fundamental understanding of the hard-soft materials interface, advances in materials printing, and approaches to make these systems robust for use. The course will promote understanding of the engineering requirements that lead to systems design for both manufacturing and reliability. Prerequisites: undergraduate degree in the sciences or engineering.
