Catalog description

In this course, teacher candidates will examine the characteristics experienced by students with mathematics difficulties and mathematics disabilities in PreK-12 classrooms. Teacher candidates will identify evidence-based practices and high leverage practices for supporting students with disabilities in the area of mathematics. Teacher candidates will critically examine the NCTM standards, NYS Next Generation Learning Standards for mathematics, and the National Center for Intensive Interventions’ resources for mathematics instruction. Emphasis will be placed on the knowledge and skills necessary to promote mathematics proficiency and support mathematics needs of students with disabilities. Teacher candidates will implement evidence based practices and potential evidence-based practices with a target student(s) based on diagnostic assessment. Offered: fall.
