Sped Research Methods Analysis

Catalog description

This course prepares candidates in the Special Education program to establish or to advance their understanding of research and its implications for practice, especially as it relates to implementing research-based interventions to students with disabilities. Candidates will examine critically research language, methods, challenges, and ethics as it applies to the instruction of students with disabilities. An introduction to quantitative, qualitative, and single subject methodology will be provided, with an emphasis on the indicators used to establish quality in research and the peer review process. To become confident consumers of research in their practice, candidates will examine a variety of outlets researchers use to assist teachers with the adoption of evidence-based practices, the relationship to data-based decision making, and the role of fidelity in the application of intervention and instructional practices.
