Binghamton University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course focuses on building teacher candidates’ knowledge of past and present disability history, including the development of special education policy and services, to better enable them to support students with disabilities in grades PK-12. With a focus on the lived experiences of disabled people and communities, especially those at the intersection of multiple oppressions, candidates will examine how past and present policy shapes how learners with disabilities experience school. Bridging history, theory, and practice, candidates will then identify, examine, and enact instructional practices that remove barriers to learning and provide meaningful and relevant support that facilitates educational growth for all students. 3 credits.
