Intro to Spanish Linguistics

Catalog description
This course serves as an introduction to the field of Hispanic Linguistics. Various topics will be covered, including fundamental areas of the discipline as well as specialized fields: first language acquisition, phonetics (the study of sounds in a given language), phonology (the study of the relationship between sounds), morphology (the study of the internal structure of words), syntax (the study of sentence structure), sociolinguistics (the study of language use in relation to social structure), and the use of Spanish in the United States. This course will prepare students to take more advanced and specialized classes in Hispanic linguistics. Prerequisite: Spanish 241, 249, or 251. Offered regularly.
