Covers the full range of the U.S. justice system (mainly within the context of criminal law and, to a lesser extent, civil law) surveillance/ identification, arrest, trial, probation, confinement, parole, and/or execution in terms of how these levels have operated in relation to how societies and the world have been organized since the 1940s but mainly focusing on the period since the 1970s to the present; includes a discussion of how both this justice system and this social order (local and global) originated historically in Western Europe.
