Catalog description

SEC 594C is the second of a two-course sequence intended to prepare students for a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Adolescence Education, Grades 7-12. This course applies and extends the content of SEC 593C in order to promote more ambitious teaching and learning of mathematics (e.g., eight mathematical practices, instructional moves, discourse, assessment). Additionally, we will focus on issues of power and status specific to mathematics and ways to address such issues in our classroom practices and interactions with students. This course is taught in conjuction with SEC 590 and SEC 591. We will use these two field-based experiences to be reflective educators and continue to refine our pedagogical practices, content knowledge, and knowledge of students. Offered: fall. 3 credits.
