The focus of SEC 593C is teaching and learning mathematics in the middle and high school. We explore a variety of topics and issues related to mathematics content, instruction, lesson planning and assessment. Particularly, this course is designed to provide the secondary mathematics teacher candidate with ways to build upon their skills and content knowledge, practice in designing rich mathematical lessons and a learning segment based on students’ mathematical thinking, reflect upon practice-theory through readings and observations, and gain an understanding of how to interpret state mathematics standards. Field work is a required component of this course. Offered: fall.
