RHET 346 Argumentative Theory & Debate - NOTE: YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR RHET 346 IF YOU HAD TAKEN RHET 354. Argumentative Theory will teach students different styles of argumentation in both written and oral forms. It will also teach students how to better research arguments. Students will engage in debates with each other and against students from other Universities. They will also help organize an on-campus public debate that they can set the format for. There are no required books or pre-requisites to the course. Students need only be dedicated, interested, and ready to learn how to improve their ability to argue effectively. The skills taught in this class will help students in all disciplines and areas of life since it will make them more comfortable at conversation, participation, argumentation, writing, and research. The course utilizes a variety of teaching methodologies to keep course time fresh and interesting throughout the entirety of the semester. The majority of the grade is composed of debates and organizing the public event, which will be done in small groups. The remainder of the grade will come from two short quizzes, in-class research assignments, attendance, and preparation.
