MSK IV: Advan Spine & Man PT
Binghamton University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course builds upon previous courses within the musculoskeletal series, with an in-depth focus on higher level, critical thinking within the examination, diagnosis and intervention process for patients with spinal dysfunction. Introduction to high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) thrust manipulation, as well as utilization of a diverse physical therapy management approach with manual therapies (including, but not limited to: muscle energy techniques, mobilization, and manipulation), combined with patient education and corrective exercise will build upon the models previously presented in prior courses. Greater emphasis is placed on spinal examination and diagnostic processes, as it fits within global functional movement assessment, along with development of better understanding and technique with performing advanced manual therapy and manipulative interventions, as part of an effective physical therapy treatment plan. This course is offered in the fall semester, year 3.
