Catalog description

Students integrate knowledge and skills of examination, evaluation, diagnosis and intervention planning for complex and challenging patients. Groups of students will be assigned a complex patient case in which they will identify and prioritize pertinent factors. Once prioritized, students will gather, interpret, and evaluate available evidence to be applied to the management of each case. The course will be held in a seminar format where the students in each group will discuss the management of each identified patient factor and will be guided by their assigned mentor. Students will also consider the utility of physical therapy in the overall management of these complex patients. Difficult and challenging conversations with patients and difficult and challenging decisions will be encountered in dealing with these complex patient scenarios. This course is offered in the fall semester, year 3.
