Catalog description

This course is designed to enable students to understand the physical and biomechanical principles of prosthesis and orthoses, in order to prescribe and apply devices for ADLs and IADLS. Students will analyze the patient/client use of such devices during the ADLs and IADLs to evaluate their limitations and indications/contraindications. This course addresses the types of orthotics and prosthetics, fitting, exercise programs, analysis of common gait disorders and gait training as part of the diagnosis and management of patients with prosthetics or orthotics. The clinical management of patients with amputations and patients with conditions requiring orthotic/bracing management is covered. This course is offered in the spring semester, year 2.
