Catalog description
First in a series covering the integumentary system, this course will introduce the system and discuss mobility and assistive devices to prevent the development of pressure ulcers. The course will be broken down into two parts. Part one, soft tissue damage, phases of healing, and basic interventions for prevention of skin breakdown. Part two, assessment of patient mobility and instruction in bed mobility, transfers and gait training including proper use of assistive devices for transfers and ambulation. Students will be able to select, adjust and instruct patients in the proper and safe use of these devices. This course is offered in the fall semester, year 1.
