Catalog description
Students will develop an understanding of how psychosocial and sociocultural factors impact an individual’s health and their response to interventions. Focusing on creating a therapeutic alliance, students will explore the importance of and build respective professional behaviors and values that will enable future success as a clinician in a variety of settings. Students will explore and apply common psychosocial concepts that impact illness and disability and the individual experience. Using social determinants of health as a framework, this course will prepare students to examine interpersonal relationships among patients, families, health professionals, and society to provide patient centered interventions. This course is offered in the fall semester, year 1.
