The main goal of this laboratory course is to present an overview of the tools used in the field of Behavioral Neuroscience. It is anticipated that students will learn basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system and the fundamentals of research in behavioral neuroscience through laboratory exercises, short lectures and scientific papers. The course will include discussions of the use of animals in neuroscience research, readings from the scientific literature, writing laboratory reports, using critical thinking for data interpretation and communicating scientific knowledge in written and oral format. Students must earn a grade of C- or higher for this course to apply to the major. Students who have credit for PSYC 364 Neuroscience Research Stream Part 2 will not receive credit for PSYC 363. Prerequisites: PSYC 111 with a grade of C or higher, PSYC 243 with a grade of C or higher and PSYC 344 with a grade of C- or higher. Prerequisite or corequisite: PSYC 362 with a grade of C- or higher; alternatively, junior standing in biology or chemistry and consent of instructor. There is a fee of $85 associated with this course.
