This course delves into the literature in one of the most active corners of IR research. Domestic politics and IR encompasses issues at the border between comparative politics and IR, including e.g. human rights, repression and contentious politics, and civil conflict. Its boundaries are not driven by topic, though. It is the approach, centering on phenomena that cross national borders -- explaining foreign policy choices via domestic factors, or domestic outcomes through an international lens -- that really defines this field.
