Conflict does not just happen in space; it fights over space and then rewires it. This course examines how territory, sovereignty, and political authority are produced and contested through spatial strategies used by states and armed non-state actors to pursue control. Across cases and forms of conflict, we analyze how violence reorganizes governance and everyday life by reshaping mobility, environments, and the meaning of borders. We also explore how technologies such as drones, satellites, biometric identification, surveillance systems, and "digital borders" are transforming what security looks like and how power is exercised across both physical and online spaces.
