The objective of this seminar is to advance students' capacity to critically analyze armed groups by examining their formation and evolution. Non-state actors/armed groups operate within the international system and wield substantial influence on a global stage. These armed groups, operating independently of official state apparatus, play an important role in shaping the course of international events. Their strategies, actions, and alliances have ramifications and the potential to disrupt or shape the existing geopolitical landscape and order, thereby leaving a lasting impact on the international system. By the end of the seminar, students will be able to have a good grasp of the different types of non-state armed groups and forces that shape their strategies and outcome.
