Global economic and political forces increasingly influence our lives today. For example, it is impossible to understand the current issues of American economics and politics - jobs, poverty, economic inequality, financial crises, government debt, and budget deficits - without understanding globalization. The same is true for most other countries. In recent decades, globalization has become widely accepted as a framework for understanding many social changes. Our seminar will critically analyze the processes of globalization, emphasizing their effects on inequality. We will explore how globalization increases inequality within nations and limits state capacity to regulate economies and redistribute wealth.
