Binghamton University · UGRD

This course is a student-led seminar that focuses on public policies and policy processes, particularly in the realms of environmental and human health, though other policy areas will also be touched on. We will discuss public policies at the federal, state, and local levels, and will examine bureaucratic, judicial, and legislative mechanisms for crafting public policy. Course material will consist of a mixture of policy theory readings and public policy case-studies. We will focus on the distinctions between a policy dilemma and an environmental or health dilemma, and between advocacy and analysis. These are key distinctions to understand for a successful career in public policy.
