In this class, we will study the core topics in the studies of terrorism, including trends in terrorism, primary causes of terror attacks, strategies of terror groups such as timing of attacks, behavior of groups towards their constituencies as well the outcome of such strategies, such as when terror groups are successful, or to what extent they are successful in achieving their objectives. On the other side of spectrum, we will examine government responses such as various counterterrorism policies, and global coordination efforts by states and international organizations in curbing terrorism as well as the extent to which all these strategies are effective. Restriction: Juniors and Seniors only, others permitted by Instructor. Offered every two years.
