Binghamton University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
History has been marked by the successive rise of powerful empires. From Rome to Napoleon to the Brits, they have had one thing in common: they all fall. Is the American “empire” the next to go? In this class, we will examine what it means to be the most “powerful” country in this post-Cold War, globalized world, what the U.S.’s chances of remaining on top are, and whether the U.S. should want to stay there. Restrictions: No Freshman (unless permitted by Instructor). Offered yearly.
