PHSC 598MS:Research Internship: Students will gain hands-on experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment through a research internship. This 6 credit-hour internship can be conducted with an advisor either in the department of pharmaceutical sciences or in an external lab (for example, a government lab, a private company, or another department at Binghamton University). Students will work with their selected mentor to develop a short-term research project that will give the student real life skills and experience in a pharmaceutical, biomedical or biotechnology environment. This may involve laboratory work, clinical research, regulatory affairs work, data analysis, product design/testing, or other work related to pharmaceutical sciences. The student is expected to spend approximately 336 hours (~9 weeks full time or ~14 weeks at 24h/week) devoted to the internship. In no case should the internship be under 300 hours or over 400 hours. Internships within Binghamton university laboratories are strictly unpaid. External internships may be paid or unpaid. Students will prepare a short summary of their work and learning outcomes to the department. In some cases, students may elect to write and defend a thesis based on their research efforts.
