PHRM 580Q: Nutrition, Microbiome and Drug Interactions in Health and Disease This elective course will explore the intricate connections between nutrition, the microbiome and drug therapy in health and disease. It will include general principles of nutrition, microbiome changes over the life cycle, and emerging research findings in the interactions of nutrition and drug therapy on microbiome in health and various diseases. Students will gain insight into: 1) the pivotal and dynamic role of nutrition and the microbiome in overall health; 2) the impact of perturbations in nutrition/medications and the microbiome in disease development or representative disease states; and 3) the potential applications of nutritional and/or microbiome therapies in disease prevention and management. Students will engage in various course learning activities, including research and review article discussions, individual projects to deepen understanding of course concepts, and group projects that integrate knowledge into practical applications.
