PHRM 580M: Advanced Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy: This elective course is designed to build upon and supplement the core psychiatric content learned in PHRM 523 (Neurology, Psychiatry, and Anesthesiology Integrated Pharmacotherapeutics). Students will actively engage in learning activities to provide advanced pharmacotherapeutic management of mental health and neuropsychiatry disorders as they relate to the practice of pharmacy in the clinical setting. The specialized role of the pharmacist in the treatment of patients with psychiatric conditions will be discussed, including the opportunities for fostering interprofessional relationships with other health care providers. Students will gain a historical and cultural perspective on the treatment of psychiatric patients, evaluate and present on key clinical drug trials, review current treatment guidelines, and develop pharmacotherapeutic plans for the management of psychiatric conditions beyond what is covered in PHRM 523.
