PHRM 574: Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience III: Pharmacy Administration/Institutional This Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) builds on the knowledge and skills students have acquired during their P1 - P3 years through direct patient care in an inpatient pharmacy administration/institutional setting, with a focus on central pharmacy and medication distribution functions. Key goals of all APPEs are to continue the development of students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills through “hands-on” experiences. During this experience, students will actively take part in pharmacy practice activities/experiences within hospital/health system pharmacy including: the medication use process; quality assurance; medication safety; interprofessional collaboration; preparation of sterile and nonsterile medication, and parenteral nutrition products. The goals of this APPE are to provide students with opportunities to: (1) develop knowledge and clinical skills in the provision of patient-centered care within a hospital/institutional pharmacy practice setting; (2) build clinical decision-making skills and confidence in these skills; (3) provide safe, accountable patient care through thorough knowledge of informatics, medication distribution and documentation processes; and (4) develop pharmacy management skills.
