PHRM 572: Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience I - Community Pharmacy: This Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) builds on the knowledge and skills students have acquired during their P1 - P3 years through direct patient care experiences in a community practice setting. Key goals of all APPEs are to continue the development of students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills through "hands-on" experiences. During this experience, students will actively take part in many community pharmacy practice activities/experiences including: interactions with patients, caregivers, prescribers, and insurers; patient counseling; self-care assessment and triage; alternative and herbal medicine consultation and recommendation; prescription filling, dispensing and verification processes; and health and wellness screenings and immunizations as appropriate. Goals of this APPE are to provide students with opportunities to: (1) develop knowledge and clinical skills in the provision of patient-centered care at the individual and patient population levels in a community practice setting; (2) build clinical decision-making skills and confidence in these skills; and (3) develop competent pharmacy management skills. (6 credit course) Prerequisites: Successful completion of P3 year and all Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences. There is a simulation fee of $130.00 and a Rx Prep fee of $363.00 associated with this course. The fees are capped at once per semester.
