PHRM 553: Pharmacy, Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine The focus of this course is on how genetic factors can modify pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic parameters of how a medication acts in different individuals and ultimately impact its efficacy and toxicity in different patients. Topics include pharmacogenomics principles and applications, biochemical analytical methods, clinical interpretation of laboratory data, and applied pharmacokinetics and therapeutic drug monitoring. Pharmacologic, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacotherapeutic underpinnings are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on considering genomic and phenotypic information to individualize pharmacotherapy and minimize adverse events. Economic and ethical issues relevant to incorporating pharmacogenomic data in the clinical decision-making process are discussed, particularly in the context of providing patient-centered care. (
