Catalog description
PHRM 550: Contemporary Pharmacy Leadership and Management Organizational structures and cultures have an impact on the contemporary practice of pharmacy; a variety of stakeholders take an interest and have a voice in the professional practice of pharmacy. Pharmacists will need an awareness of managerial issues they will likely encounter in order to be effective practitioners. This course addresses these needs by introducing basic administrative, business, managerial and leadership principles necessary for the effective and efficient delivery of patient-centered care goals. As such the course complements the clinical and professional expertise pharmacy students have developed through completing integrated pharmacotherapy, population health and previous professional pharmacy practice courses. Course topics include budgetary and financial considerations, marketing principles, personnel management, customer service, continuous quality assessment and performance improvement as well as risk management and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and quality standards proposed by accrediting agencies on pharmacy management and leadership. The impact of these areas to improved value propositions and improved patient safety is explored. (
